PeaZip for Windows is a free file archiver utility. Like many Windows users, we have several compression tools installed, and we found we kept returning to PeaZip for its simplicity and common sense defaults. In operation PeaZip was not noticeably faster or slower than the latest WinZIP version, but PeaZip is free and easier to use for non-hardcore users that don't work with RAR files. Options can be selected to do pretty much any task you'd want to perform with an archiving utility, including adding encryption and optimizing compression formulae. In addition to invoking the menu, you can also drag files over the PeaZip desktop icon to archive them, or drag an archive over the icon to uncompress it. The default settings for most PeaZip operations will be adequate for most users. Once installed, the right mouse button brings up the traditional Explorer menu with basic PeaZip capabilities added to it. We found PeaZip's interface to be well-designed and user-friendly. PeaZip can read RAR files, but it cannot write them, the one missing archive format we wish PeaZip could support. Incredibly powerful archiving programįor users who want an alternative to paid proprietary applications, Peazip may be one of the best open-source utilities with all the features one would need for handling virtually all operations related to archiving, including custom theme support and a clean interface compatible with Windows’ design language.PeaZip is a free tool for creating and opening ZIP files quickly and easily. The top ribbon provides quick access to the most advanced features supported by the app.įurthermore, the toolbar underneath shows large clickable buttons with the basic functions of creating, converting, extracting, testing and deleting archives. Upon booting, the application displays an aesthetically-pleasing design resembling Microsoft’s built-in file explorer, meaning that new users will feel right at home navigating the layout. Thanks to its open-source license, user-friendly interface and handy archiving tools, Peazip may be the best choice for those who do not want to deal with paid services. One such application is the archiving utility named Peazip, an alternative to already-established giants of the industry such as WinRAR. As a result, an entire category of applications was sparked in the race for offering the best user experience for an affordable price. While Windows' built-in archive extraction capabilities may suffice for many users, there are more advanced and useful archive formats than the default ZIP supported by the operating system.
